Little League International Rules Changes
Hey folks..
Little league international has implemented major changes that will affect many of our youths now and in years to come. Let me start with the easiest change to explain.. Similar to when the BBCOR bat was introduced to 13U and up divisions.. this is the last year that all little league approved bats will continue to be used. After this season, little league international will be going to USABat certified bats only. What does this mean? It means that EVERY little league bat will no longer be legal after this season. The USABat is the new certification that must be stamped on all bats being used in Little League Baseball. DO NOT go buy a brand new $200 or $300 bat that will only be good for one season.
The second major change is league ages.. several years ago little league international changed the date at which a player is eligible to play in a certain age division.. they moved the date forward allowing players born in the summer months to have another year of eligibility.. they are now reverting back.. This can be complicated so let me try to make this clear as mud. Any player born in the months of May, June, July, and August will eventually be affected by this rule change.. if not.. no need to try to figure this out..
How this will affect this season.. any player that played this past season and born within those months that played at a 9U level and below will 'skip' a year of eligibility.. meaning that a player born in June that was 9U this past season will be considered an 11U this upcoming season under little league rules. Little league international has 'grandfathered' this past seasons 10yr and 11yr olds.. they will be age eligible for 11/12yr old divisions this upcoming season and next year. If that doesn't confuse you enough.. it will eventually have a trickle down affect. See almost all of baseball eventually follows suit with little league international.. meaning that.. 13 and over league players will eventually be moved to the new age restrictions.. travel tournaments will likely eventually follow suit putting players born those summer months into a new age category. YUP.. clear as mud.
What to know as of today.. all little league bats will be illegal under little league international rules as of 12/31/2017.. don't waste your money.. Any player born May thru August.. starting 2007 and after will be bumped up one age level this upcoming season..
Let me know if you have any questions..
